1. Purpose of This Page

Cookies are small text files a site stores on your device so it can recognise that device again. They are why a cart survives from one page to the next and why you are not asked to sign in twice in a row.

This page lists what elrakus.com actually places on your device, what each thing does, and how to switch off everything that is not essential. Our Privacy Policy covers personal data more broadly.

2. What We Use

2.1 Essential

Required for the store to function. These cannot be disabled, and they need no consent because without them there is no working store to consent to.

- Cart and session state (Shopify), so your selections persist as you browse
- Account sign-in and authentication
- Checkout security and fraud screening (Shopify)
- A record of your own cookie choices, so the banner stops asking

2.2 Analytics

These show us which pages get read, where people give up, and which product descriptions leave the obvious question unanswered. Used only with your consent.

- Google Analytics, for aggregate traffic and behaviour
- Shopify's built-in store analytics

2.3 Advertising

These let us reach people who have visited the store and measure whether an ad produced a sale. Used only with your explicit consent.

- Meta Pixel, for Facebook and Instagram advertising
- Google Ads conversion and remarketing tags

2.4 Placed by Third Parties

Some services embedded in the store set cookies of their own under their own policies:

- Shopify Payments, for secure payment processing
- hCaptcha, to keep bots out of our forms
- ParcelPanel, which drives order tracking at elrakus.com/apps/parcelpanel

3. Your Controls

On your first visit a banner lets you accept everything, refuse everything except the essentials, or decide category by category. That panel can be reopened any time from the footer, and withdrawing consent takes effect immediately.

Your browser gives you a second layer:

- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies
- Safari: Settings > Privacy
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security
- Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions

Blocking every cookie will break checkout. That is how carts work, not a penalty we impose.

4. Lifespan

Session cookies vanish when you close the browser. Persistent ones last no more than 13 months from when they are set or last refreshed. We apply that ceiling to every category, advertising included.

5. Legal Basis

Essential cookies are used because they are necessary to provide something you asked for: a functioning store and a completed order.

Analytics and advertising cookies run only on the consent you give through the banner. Withdraw it whenever you like; doing so does not undo processing that was lawful at the time.

For US customers this follows FTC guidance on online tracking and disclosure, and the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act. Elrak does not sell personal data and does not process it for targeted advertising in the sense the VCDPA defines, which under that Act gives you an opt-out right we have effectively already exercised on your behalf.

6. Browser Privacy Signals

Do Not Track was never standardised and browsers send it inconsistently, so we do not treat it as an instruction. The Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal is different: where your browser transmits GPC, we read it as an opt-out of analytics and advertising cookies and apply it automatically. Virginia residents are entitled to have an opt-out signal honoured, and we extend the same treatment to everyone.
